The world owes Chai nothing, but he's determined to take what joy he can from it anyway. He's friendly, curious and quick to laugh but isn't beyond resorting to practiced violence when he or people around him are threatened.The ways of Rhalgr might have honed his fists but they haven't honed his restlessness. He'll flirt with danger, strangers and just about anything that keeps him from standing still too long.He likes to pretend that nothing matters, but he cares more than he lets on - if someone needs his help, he'll rush to their aid, most of the times to his own detriment.Despite this, Chai is not a hero - in fact, he'd probably laugh at the idea. But he's decent where it counts, the kind of man who keeps showing up when you need him, even if you never asked him to.
BACKSTORY
Chai was born to a quiet Seeker tribe during the Empire's crushing reign over the Fringes. Long treks across rough terrain, hushed warnings about Garlean patrols, and stories his father told around the fire were staples of his early upbringing, like most younglings of his tribe.During his teenage years, his family was given a choice when he was caught trying to pickpocket one of the soldiers of the Resistance: To turn him in so that he can either serve his sentence as a soldier in the resistance or as a disciple of a nearby Fists of Rhalgr sect. His family chose the latter, hoping that it'd give him a better chance to make it through the war alive, and so he joined the disciples and started his training.There, he learned how to breathe through his anger, to tame the fire in his chest and mold it into something useful. This was also the point he realized how much he liked to fight - meditation and prayer circles weren't his speed, but he never missed a training session, and was often praised by his masters for his agility and quick thinking.For a while, Chai embraced the ways of the fist - the appeals of clarity, strength, discipline and purpose were undeniably attractive. But even as he trained, his gaze kept wandering beyond the mountains.Having fought against authority his whole life, he didn't do well with rules in the monastery - he laughed too loud, skipped meditations, snuck out to drink wine with travelling merchants and mingle with the local population. He learned to fight like a monk but lived more like a cat chasing birds.The war ended, and with it went any reason to stay put. With no more obligations to the monastery, Chai got up and left with only a satchel slung over his shoulders, tossing a grin at the gate and waving goodbye to whoever happened to be awake."Rhalgr might be pissed off at me, but I think he’d understand a guy wanting to see what he’s fighting for."

The Wanderer: Chai is never in one place for too long. He travels to new places on a whim, often following rumors, work opportunities or just the feeling that something worth is seeing out there. If your character is on the road or chasing trouble, it's entirely possible he’s already offered to tag along.Hot Hands: Chai lives for the fight - for him, sparring is a bonding experience. He'd appreciate a training partner who would be willing to push him to - and maybe even past - his limits.Partners in Crime: I absolutely adore partners-in-crime dynamics and Chai's situation makes it very easy to set something like this up. He's easy to get along with, and will never say no to an adventure.No Stranger to Trouble: While Chai is easy to get along and make friends with, it's not entirely too hard to get on his bad side, either. An old rival looking to settle the score? Or maybe you're a friend wanting to catch up after having fallen out with him - either way, this hook is for you. I'm always for setting up past connections.Light Pockets: Chai is really bad at managing his income. His hedonism results in him spending most of his gil on good food, bad bets and spontaneous acts of generosity. He's always looking for odd jobs to make ends meet.Choose Your Own Adventure: This hook is pretty self explanatory! Chai is a very flexible character. I purposefully designed him in a way that would allow me to write him with almost all types of characters.
